The Trinidad and Tobago striker comes to Atlanta after spending the majority of his career in the English Premier League, Championship and League One. He scored 86 goals in more than 300 appearances,including time at Southampton, Sheffield Wednesday, Sunderland, Stoke City, Cardiff City, and Bournemouth. Jones tallied more than 100 goals across all competitions between his time in England, Abu Dhabi and Trinidad and Tobago. His most caps came with Stoke City where he appeared 130 times and scored 31 goals. A long-time captain of the Trinidad and Tobago national team, Jones is the seventh most capped player in team history (83) and is sixth all-time in goals with 23.
2016/2017 (Central FC): Jones was signed to Atlanta United Jan. 15, 2016 and subsequently sent on loanto his hometown team of Central FC in Trinidad and Tobago. In two league matches Jones netted three goals, one against Police FC (Nov. 4) and a brace against Point Fortin (Nov. 19). Jones played in two CONCACAF Champions League matches with Central, scoring once against MLS side Sporting Kansas City(Aug. 17). He played the full 90 minutes in both contests, the second against the Vancouver Whitecaps (Sept. 26).
2015/2016 (Cardiff City): Jones appeared in 19 Championship League games, starting in 15, to start the season and scored five goals with two assists. Beginning on January 5, 2016 Jones went on loan to United Arab Emirates club Al Jazira. He appeared in 18 matches across all competitions, scoring four goals with three assists.
2014/2015 (Cardiff City): Jones scored nine goals in the first half of the season. He found the net 11times and was Cardiff’s leading scorer prior to being loaned out to fellow Championship League team Bournemouth in late March 2015. Jones scored on his debut with Bournemouth on April 3, 2015, tying the game in the 82 minute against Ipswich Town. He appeared in five more matches for the Cherries, which went on to win the Championship title and earned promotion to the Premier League for the 2015/2016 season.
2013/2014 (Stoke City): Jones began the season with his first professional hat trick against Walsall FC in the EFL Cup (Aug. 28). He scored four goals in two League Cup matches and one goal in his only FA Cup match that season. Jones appeared in seven league matches before signing with Cardiff City on January 28, 2014. On his debut with Cardiff, Jones scored the game-winning goal in the 50 minute against Norwich City (Feb. 1) in a 2-1 match. He appeared in 11 games with Cardiff through the end of the season as they were relegated to the Championship.
2012/2013 (Stoke City): Jones appeared in 26 Premier League games, starting in 10. During a four-game stretch Jones scored his only three goals for the season against Everton (Dec. 15), Liverpool (Dec. 26), and Southampton (Dec. 29).
2011/2012 (Stoke City): Jones began the season with two goals against FC Thun (Aug. 25) in the second leg of the Europa League qualification round. He finished with four goals in eight games during Europa League. Appearing in 21 Premier League games, Jones netted six goals across all competitions.
2010/2011 (Stoke City): On August 11, 2010 Jones set a club record when he signed a four-year, £8 million deal with Stoke City. He scored on his home debut against Aston Villa (Sept. 13) in a 2-1 victory. Jones went on to score nine league goals in his first season with Stoke.
2009/2010 (Sunderland): Jones scored a brace against Blackburn Rovers in his third match of the year(Aug. 22). He again scored two goals in a 5-2 win over Wolves a month later (Sept. 27). In their next game against Manchester United (Oct. 3), Jones scored in the 58 minute to pull his team ahead 2-1. Jones finished with nine league goals and four assists.
2008/2009 (Sunderland): Jones began the season with an injury to his knee he sustained while playing for Trinidad and Tobago. He played his first match of the season against Newcastle (Oct. 25), coming on as a substitute in the 57 minute. Jones scored in his fourth game back, equalizing against BlackburnRovers (Nov. 15) en route to a 2-1 win. That spurred a stretch that saw Jones score seven goals over his next 13 games. He finished with 10 league goals.
2007/2008 (Sunderland): Jones signed with Sunderland on August 29, 2007. He scored on his home debut against Reading (Sept. 15) and tallied an assist. Jones set a career-high when he dished out 10assists during league play. He played one game while on loan to Southampton and scored against Norwich (Aug. 18). Jones scored in three straight league games against Arsenal (Oct. 7), West Ham (Oct.21) and Fulham (Oct. 27).
2006/2007 (Southampton): Jones set his career-high for goals in a season with 14 over 34Championship League matches. He scored a brace in four matches against Birmingham (Nov. 29), Sheffield Wednesday (Jan. 31), Barnsley (Feb. 17) and Southend United (May 6) on the last match of the season.
2005/2006 (Southampton): In his first full season with Southampton, Jones found the net four times in33 league appearances. He scored on consecutive games against Luton Town (Aug. 9) and Sheffield Wednesday (Aug. 13).
2004/2005 (Southampton): Jones signed for Southampton from Trinidad and Tobago’s W Connection on July 1, 2004. His first playing time in England came while on loan to League One side SheffieldWednesday. Jones scored in his Sheffield debut and recorded an assist against Doncaster Rovers (Dec.19). He went on to score in six consecutive games and totaled seven goals. Jones returned toSouthampton for three games against Liverpool (Jan. 22) where he made his Premier League debut,Portsmouth in a FA Cup Match (Jan. 29) and another league game against Birmingham (Feb. 2) before being loaned out a second time to Championship club Stoke City. With Stoke, Jones appeared 13 times and scored three goals, including the game-winning goal in his Stoke debut for a 1-0 win against Millwall(Feb. 19).
2002-2004 (Joe Public and W Connection): Began his professional career in 2002 in his native country of Trinidad and Tobago with TT Pro League clubs Joe Public and W Connection.
INTERNATIONAL: Jones has made 76 appearances for the Trinidad and Tobago national team since making his debut in 2003. In 35 World Cup Qualifying matches, Jones has scored six goals and recorded three assists. Jones helped Trinidad and Tobago reach their first World Cup in 2006 where his team competed in Group B against England, Sweden and Paraguay. Jones started against England. He was also capped for the U-18, U-20 and U-23 Olympic team. Jones was named Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation’s Player of the Year in 2007.
