Atlanta United have successfully appealed a red card given to defender Leandro Gonzalez Pirez during last week’s match against Montreal Impact, Major League Soccer announced today. Because the red card was rescinded, Pirez will not be suspended for the upcoming match against Real Salt Lake on Saturday.

An Independent Panel unanimously rescinded the fine and one-game suspension for Pirez. The three-person panel consists of one representative from the United States Soccer Federation, one representative from the Canadian Soccer Association, and one representative from the Professional Referees Organization.

Pirez was sent off in first half stoppage time against Montreal with Atlanta leading 1-0 at the time. Atlanta ultimately lost the match at the death, conceding in second half stoppage time to fall 2-1.

Atlanta United’s match against Real Salt Lake on Saturday will be televised live on CW69. Kickoff is scheduled for 9:30 p.m. EST with Kevin Eagan (play-by-play) and club president Darren Eales (analyst) announcing the match. Eales is filling in for Dan Gargan.
