TORONTO (Aug. 8, 2025) - Atlanta United 2 defeated Toronto FC II 3-1 to earn its fourth win of the season on a cool night at York Lions Stadium. Patrick Weah, Ryan Carmichael and Rodrigo Neri each scored to help earn Atlanta its first road win of the season.
The 5-Stripes started quickly with a goal in the seventh minute. Atlanta's backline controlled possession when Ronan Wynne played a driven ball through for Weah. The Liberian dribbled from midfield into the box down the right side of the pitch before rifling a finish into the roof of the net.
Carmichael scored his first goal of the season in the 20th minute. Santiago Pita carried the ball down the left before squaring it to Gabriel Wesseh in the midfield with space in front of him. The 17-year old curled a through ball toward a streaking Carmichael on the right, who received the ball at the top of the box and touched inside to fire with his left foot into the near post.
Atlanta nearly had a third in the 30th minute. Toronto attempted to dribble out of pressure in the midfield when Toto Majub one-touched a long ball away, finding Wesseh who was onside with space on the right. Wesseh dribbled inside and attempted a shot from a tight angle but rattled the far post as Atlanta took the lead into halftime.
In the 50th minute, Wesseh delivered a set piece that saw Weah collide with a Toronto defender. Neri substituted on for the goal scorer, who could not continue with a head injury.
Eleven minutes later, Neri joined the scoresheet. Carmichael won a free kick on the right from 25 yards out. The Miami-native stepped up to strike a low curler around the wall to finish in the near post and triple Atlanta's lead.
In the 69th minute, Toronto pulled one back. Hassan Ayari received a through ball on the left before cutting inside and playing centrally to Markus Cimermancic, who finished with a one-time shot to the back post. Toronto continued to push for more, but the 5-Stripes commanded the game to close out their four-match away stretch with a win.
