HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (July 18, 2026) - Atlanta United 2 fell 2-0 to Huntsville City FC on Saturday at Wicks Family Field in Huntsville. Atlanta out-shot its opponent but was unable to put one on target in the loss.
It was a quiet first half, and though Atlanta controlled 67 percent of the possession, neither team registered a shot on target. However, Atlanta looked the most likely to score, with seven shots from five different players, five corners and 14 touches in the Huntsville box, while Huntsville had only managed two shots and two touches within the Atlanta box.
Despite the controlled dominance, Atlanta could not find the breakthrough, and the teams entered the half goalless.
In the 53rd minute, Huntsville scored with the first shot on target of the game. Midfielder Aiden Jarvis, deep in his own half, sent a ball over the top to attacking midfielder Misei Yoshizawa, who was sprinting down the right wing. Dominik Chong Qui arrived first to the ball as it landed, however, he was not able to control it properly and spilled it to Yoshizawa just outside of the Atlanta box, presenting Huntsville with a two-on-one opportunity against Jonathan Ransom. Despite the efforts of Matthew Senanou to make a last-ditch tackle, Yoshizawa passed across to Maximus Ekk, who was able to finish on an empty net.
Huntsville doubled its lead in the 70th minute. Yoshizawa, winning a header in the middle of the pitch, flicked the ball behind him to attacking midfielder Zidane Yanez. Noticing striker Malachi Molina streaking down the center of the pitch alone with Daniel Chica, Yanez played a bending through ball that reached Molina, who had beat Chica for pace. Ransom, left alone with an attacker again, came out of his box to diffuse the chance, but Molina was able to chip the ball over the diving goalkeeper and into the net to make it 2-0.
Despite a curled effort by Cameron Dunbar in stoppage time, Atlanta was still unable to find a shot on target in the match as the ball narrowly bent past the far post of the goal, and Huntsville secured its 2-0 victory.
As the referee blew his whistle for the conclusion of the match, Senanou shoved midfielder Moises Veliz, resulting in a straight red card and a suspension for Atlanta’s next match.
Atlanta United 2 (9-6-3, 30 points) returns to action Sunday, July 26, when it returns home to face NYCFC II (7 p.m. ET, MLSNEXTPro.com, OneFootball App, Soccer Down Here).
