Mario is in his first season with Atlanta United F.C. as the head athletic trainer. His responsibilities include overseeing and directing all aspects of the medical care, including injury prevention, treatment and rehabilitation, and well-being of all the players in the first team.
Previously, Mario worked in the same capacity as the head athletic trainer for Chicago Fire of the MLS. Before his time with Chicago Fire, he was the rehabilitation coordinator at Tennessee Tech University from 2013 to the end of 2015. Throughout his career, Mario has provided both physical rehabilitation and athletic training services for a wide range of patients including high school, college, semi-professional and professional athletes.
Mario graduated with honors from Georgia Southern University in 2005 with a Bachelor of Science in Sports Medicine with an emphasis in Athletic Training. Following his graduation from GSU, he attended the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University, where he earned his Doctorate in Physical Therapy in 2009. In 2013, he became a Board Certified Sports Specialist through the ABPTS.
Mario lives in Marietta, GA with his wife Katherine, and his sons Colin and Colby.
