Officially opened in 2017 and located in Atlanta’s downtown tourist and entertainment district, Mercedes-Benz Stadium is the official home for Atlanta United, representing the latest in design and features for a multi-purpose venue.
Mercedes-Benz Stadium features a 42,500-seat soccer configuration and a cutting-edge curtaining system creating an intimate, high energy setting for soccer matches. The stadium also has the flexibility to expand the soccer configuration into the 300 level which allows the capacity to increase to over 70,000 and in turn, provided the opportunity for Atlanta United to break Major League Soccer's single-match attendance record on October 22nd, 2017 when they housed 71,874 for their regular season match against Toronto FC.
Central to the building design is utilization of natural light, with an exterior skin made of ETFE panels and a retractable roof inspired by the oculus in the ancient Roman Pantheon. The stadium is currently seeking LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) certification at the highest level from the U.S. Green Building Council.
The world-class sports and entertainment facility does not only house ATL UTD but also fellow AMB Sports & Entertainment organization: the National Football League’s Atlanta Falcons. The multi-purpose stadium also hosts other major sports and entertainment events, including the SEC Football Championship, the 2018 MLS All-Star Game, Super Bowl LIII in 2019 and the NCAA Men’s Final Four in 2020.
