With an endless line wrapping around downtown Atlanta’s street corners and awaiting the moment for the historic doors of The Tabernacle to open, Atlanta United Founding Members were eager to see the unveil of the club’s first ever kit.
Music, chatter, and anticipation filled the iconic venue as 2,500 fans entered the building and battled for the best spot to witness this monumental moment in the club’s history.
MLSsoccer.com’s charismatic Susannah Collins hosted the event building the suspense and exciting the crowd. She started off by welcoming some of the club’s key leaders up on stage, Owner Arthur Blank, President Darren Eales, and Technical Director Carlos Bocanegra, as well as Jack Salzwedel, CEO of the kit's sponsor, American Family Insurance.
Following all the interactions and fun with the leadership group on stage, the lights suddenly fell dim and every attendee knew the moment had arrived.
After the kit hype video, three figures entered the room from a back lit, foggy stage and with a dazzling production of smoke, lights, and music, revealed were Atlanta United players Tito Villalba, Chris McCann, and Andrew Carleton sporting the black and red stripes of the 2017 inaugural season primary kits.
Almost instantaneously, the kits became available for purchase at The Tabernacle allowing fans the rare opportunity to wear their own kits just moments after seeing it for the first time. The players joined in on the fun helping fans purchase their kits and jumping in on as many photos as possible.
Joy and exhilaration filled the air in The Tabernacle as Atlanta United reached another major milestone in the club’s history. Fans left the night skating across a floor full of confetti and clenching a tangible piece of 2017.
