Okonkwo, 19, signed a Homegrown contract with Atlanta United June 17, 2017. The Nigeria native has been one of the most prolific scorers in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy over the last two years, notching 48 goals in two seasons. In addition to playing with USL-affiliate Charleston Battery, Okonkwo spent this past season with the Atlanta United U-18s and led the team with 26 goals in 29 appearances. During the 2015-16 season, Okonkwo scored 22 goals in 30 appearances for Georgia United.
2017 (Charleston Battery): Okonkwo made three appearances for the Battery.
2016/17 (Atlanta United Academy): Okonkwo led the U-18 team with 26 goals in 29 appearances. That mark was the third-highest in all of USSDA for the U-18 age group. The U-18s finished with the No. 1 overall record in the entire country, losing just twice in 30 regular season matches en route to winning the Southeast Division.
2015/16 (Georgia United Academy): Okonkwo scored 22 goals in 30 appearances for the Georgia United U-18s, which ranked fourth-highest in all of USSDA.
