Atlanta United 2 was defeated 2-0 by Ottawa Fury FC Saturday afternoon at TD Place Stadium. A pair of first half goals from Ottawa put the match out of reach as ATL UTD 2 out-shot its opponent 10-6 but only put two on frame.

“We never quite found our rhythm,” said ATL UTD 2 head coach Scott Donnelly. “We made a few technical mistakes early and found ourselves chasing the game. It was a difficult match, but we will continue to grow as a group and focus on playing with consistency.”

The home side scored in the 26th minute after Carl Haworth’s attempted shot was scuffed

and fell to Steevan Dos Santos, who buried the loose ball to give Fury FC a 1-0 advantage. Haworth later scored from a free kick in the 35th minute to double the lead.

Atlanta nearly pulled a goal back in the 45th minute when Chris Goslin’s free kick was tipped over the bar by Ottawa goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau for a corner. ATL UTD 2 midfielder Kevin Barajas, signed from the club’s American Family Insurance Dream Tryouts, made his club debut when he entered as a second-half substitute.

ATL UTD 2 (1-4-3, 6 points) returns to action Wednesday, May 16 against Toronto FC II at 7:00 p.m. EST at Coolray Field. The match will be streamed live on ESPN+.
