Following opening weekend fixtures with AFC Lightning, Nashville SC and Atlanta Rovers, Atlanta United Academy traveled away to Lanier Soccer Association and FC Birmingham for Week 2 of MLS Next and UPSL fixtures respectively.

Atlanta United’s U15s got off to a flying start versus LSA U16’s when a Lanier defender gave the ball away in the build, straight to Ivory Covington, who turned the ball in with a first time finish.

Ignacio Suarez doubled the lead in the 47th minute. DD Sibrian helped retain possession before spraying a ball out wide, with Tristan Lee doing the rest, taking on the full back 1v1 before delivering for Suarez at the front post to turn home his second of the season.

In the second half, LSA kept coming and pulled back a late consolation goal, beating Donaldson after a small scramble in the box after a corner. While Atlanta United struggled to kill the game with a third goal, the chances kept coming throughout the half, as well as the yellow cards, as both sides competed until the final whistle. A standout performance from Damola Browne in front of the back four, ensured chances were limited going the other way, giving Coach Zach Herold’s side the win.

Final Score: ATL UTD U15s 2-1 LSA U16s

Around the Grounds

ATL UTD U19s bounced back from their first UPSL defeat of the season at the hands of Atlanta Rovers FC last week with a solid display away at FC Birmingham. After delays to kick off, due to storms in the area, a Gabe Nickerson brace ensured Atlanta United U19s took a share of the points.

Of the other games away at LSA, Atlanta United U13’s and U17’s were held to scoreless draws, with the U14’s winning 2-0 thanks to goals from Kwon and Chea from the spot.
