Atlanta United 2 falls 3-1 vs. FC Tulsa

TULSA, Okla. (Aug. 28, 2021) – Atlanta United 2 lost 3-1 to FC Tulsa Saturday night at ONEOK Field. Machop Chol scored his first professional goal and Atlanta’s lone goal.

After a quiet opening to the match, Tulsa opened the scoring in the 14th minute. A free kick was served into the box and bounced over to Matthew Sheldon at the top of the six-yard box, where he hit a volley into the back of the net.

Atlanta quickly responded to level the game in the 18th minute. Darwin Matheus served in a free kick from about 30 yards out. The ball popped out to Phillip Goodrum, who headed it to the bottom left corner of the goal. The goalkeeper made a diving save and tried to parry the ball away, but Chol was there to bury the rebound.

In the 30th minute, Tulsa took the lead again. A long diagonal ball was played to the back post, where Dario Suárez made a sliding effort to play the ball into the near post, where Lebo Moloto finished the one-time shot. Then, Tulsa found its third goal in the 34th minute. Moloto gained possession near the 18-yard box and drove across the top of the box and fired a low-driven shot into the back of the net.

ATL UTD 2 (6-9-7, 25 points) will return to action against Indy Eleven on Sept. 4 at IU Michael A. Carroll Track & Soccer Stadium (ESPN+, 7:00 p.m. ET).
