Atlanta United acquires Amar Sejdic from CF Montreal

Sejdic-announce

ATLANTA (July 6, 2021) —Atlanta United today announced it has acquired midfielder Amar Sejdic from CF Montreal in exchange for $100,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM), with the potential to rise to $150,000 GAM if performance incentives are met. The trade is effective as of July 7, once the Secondary Transfer Window opens.

“We’re really pleased to add Amar to our roster and look forward to him joining the club immediately,” Atlanta United Vice President and Technical Director Carlos Bocanegra said. “He’s a smart, responsible midfielder who has recently started to come on for Montreal. He’ll add competition to our group of midfielders as we prepare for an important stretch of the season.”

Sejdic, 24, was selected by CF Montreal in the second round (No. 34 overall) of the 2019 MLS SuperDraft. In three seasons, he’s appeared in 22 matches with 12 starts. During the 2021 MLS Regular Season, he’s made seven appearances and four starts, including Montreal’s last two matches. In 2020, Sejdic made 14 appearances with seven starts while scoring two goals. He also started in Montreal’s lone MLS Cup Playoff match, adding an assist in a 2-1 loss to New England. Sejdic made three appearances during the 2020 Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League and scored the game-winning goal in a 1-0 victory vs. Olimpia in the second leg match of the quarterfinals.

A graduate from the University of Maryland, Sejdic had an illustrious college career that was capped off by winning the 2018 NCAA Championship, in which he scored the game’s loan goal, en route to being named the College Cup Most Valuable Player. In four seasons at Maryland, he played in 82 matches, scored 22 goals and added 16 assists.
