eMLS 2022 Championship

Atlanta United & Paulo Neto qualify to the FIFAe World Cup

Atlanta United is going to the World Cup!

That's right, after two incredible performances on Sunday, Paulo Neto has secured a spot in the 2022 FIFAe World Cup. The Brazilian eSports player has finished in the top 32 gamers in the world after competing in the FIFA Global Series Playoffs this weekend in London.

Paulo, who also won the eMLS Cup this year, defeated Belgian Pinna97 representing soccer club Genk with a score of 8-1 after two legs in the first round early Sunday. He moved on to play Argentinean Correa from team Essentials Gaming, in a heavily contested series where they tied 1-1 in the first leg and 0-0 in the second leg, forcing an extra time where Neto scored two more goales to lead the series 3-1 on aggregate.

It will be the first time for both Paulo Neto and Atlanta United playing in the FIFAe World Cup, after having also qualified last year in 2021 but the tournament didn't take place because of restrictions due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The 2022 FIFAe World Cup will be played from July 14-17 in Copenhagen, Denmark, and you can follow all the action on atlutd.com/club/emls, our social media accounts, @PauloNeto999, and to coincide with the FIFAe World Cup we'll soon launch a dedicated Twitter account exclusively for all your eSports needs.
