With only five matches to go in the 2024 regular season, it was no secret that a result was needed when Atlanta United headed to New Jersey to face the New York City Red Bulls on Saturday, September 21. It was veteran keeper Brad Guzan who kept the 5-Stripes in the match as they played a formidable Eastern Conference team. His play did not go unnoticed as MLS named him to Team of the Matchday for Matchday 34.

His most notable save came in the 87th minute of the match when Atlanta United's Jay Fortune was called for a kicking foul inside the box off a long throw-in. New York Red Bulls was awarded a massive opportunity with a penalty kick. Red Bulls striker Elias Manoel stepped up to the spot and Guzan came up big for Atlanta United. It was the third time this season that Guzan stopped a penalty kick

Only five minutes later, Edwin Mosquera would score an absolute rocket of a goal to put Atlanta United up 2-1. Though Atlanta walked away with the draw at the end of the match against NYRB, it was Guzan's calm presence in goal that allowed them to keep hope as they look to push to make the playoffs.

Atlanta United's next match will be against another East Coast team in the Philadelphia Union. It will be their second consecutive road match.
