Another month has come and gone, and it was a memorable one for Atlanta United. Not only was August full of impressive wins and show-stopping goals, but a new kit added even more flair to the 5-Stripes. Let’s look back on the best moments from last month:

Almada’s at it again!

Atlanta’s new No. 10 had an incredible August to earn Performer of the Month for the second time in a row. The Argentine midfielder had one goal and three assists last month, and he now has 23 goal contributions for the season. Thiago Almada's 14 assists are just one shy of the single-season club record.

Golazo Xande!

One of Atlanta’s newest signings, Xande Silva, had our 17s going wild in his first match at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Almada sent a beautiful ball in to Silva running far post, and the Portuguese winger connected with his first touch, sending his shot into the bottom right corner. He put the exclamation point on the goal by celebrating with a cartwheel and backflip.

Atlanta Influences Everything

Atlanta United revealed its third kit of the 2023 season, the ‘404 kit,’ which was inspired by the 90s and honors the history and culture of the city. Along with the release of the kit, the club produced a documentary that tells the story of Atlanta, including voices such as Big Boi, T.I. and Shirley Franklin. Atlanta wore the kits against Nashville SC and FC Cincinnati and will wear them two more times this season.

First time in the 5-Stripes

After nearly a month of anticipation, the 17s were finally able to see both Xande Silva and Saba Lobjanidze make their debuts after signing with Atlanta. Silva was in the starting lineup for his first match in Seattle and had three shots on target. Lobjanidze came on in the 61st minute against Nashville and scored a flashy goal with a back-heel to introduce himself to Atlanta supporters.

A dynamic duo

Thiago Almada and Giorgos Giakoumakis were consecutively named Player of the Matchday for Matchdays 27 and 28 last month. Almada became the first player in MLS this season to earn the honor three times, and Atlanta has won the award five times this season, currently the most in the league.

Back to business

Atlanta returned from the Leagues Cup break in great form, earning back-to-back wins against strong opponents. The 2-0 win over Seattle Sounders was Atlanta’s first club win at Lumen Field and third road win of the season. A few days later, Atlanta gave Nashville its worst loss in club history with a 4-0 victory at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Peaks and Valleys

Atlanta United released the second episode of “Rooted in the Stripes,” a documentary series that covers the club’s 2023 season. The episode tracks the highs and lows of the season from April to late July and includes interviews from Giakoumakis, head coach Gonzalo Pineda, local radio talent Jason Longshore and others.
