Momentum Riding High

It has been a while since another MLS Academy has come to our grounds, but that doesn’t mean our boys haven’t been active.

All age groups participating this weekend have played around 4-5 games against local, national and MLS academies since mid-February.

Our U-13s and U-14s secured victories over the likes of South Georgia Tormenta, Wake FC, Queen City Mutiny, and Lanier Soccer Academy all within the past three weeks.

The U-17 and U-15s, on the other hand, will want to get back to consistently winning ways this weekend. The U-17s lost their last two matches against MLS teams, Charlotte FC and New York Red Bulls, but managed to find a 3-1 win over North Carolina-based club Wake FC in between.

Similarly, the U-15s also suffered losses in Charlotte and Nashville before getting a comfortable 4-0 victory over Wake.

The good news for those age groups is that New England Revolution have only played one MLS NEXT fixture this calendar year. The Revs’ victories over FC Boston Bolts (Miles Robinson’s academy) last week were the first matches of 2022 for them.

So, the momentum goes to Atlanta just based on the sheer number of games the 5-Stripes have under their belt.

All of the clubs from MLS and Liga MX will compete in a completely reimagined Leagues Cup: an annual, month-long tournament that runs from July 26-August 25, 2024.
