Okonkwo signed a Homegrown contract with Atlanta United on June 17, 2017. The Nigeria native was one of the most prolific scorers in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy from 2015-2017, notching 48 goals in two seasons. On loan at Charleston Battery in 2018, Okonkwo made 24 USL appearances and scored five goals.
2018 (Charleston Battery): The Atlanta United Homegrown player was loaned out to Charleston Battery for the season and made an impact in his second year with the club. He made 24 appearances for Charleston and scored five goals, which ranked third on the team. He made 11 starts and logged over 1,000 minutes for the Battery in 2018. He finished the year with 32 total shots, 13 of which were on target.
2017 (Charleston Battery): Okonkwo made three appearances for the Battery.
2016/17 (Atlanta United Academy): Okonkwo led the U-18 team with 26 goals in 29 appearances. That mark was the third-highest in all of USSDA for the U-18 age group. The U-18s finished with the No. 1 overall record in the entire country, losing just twice in 30 regular season matches en route to winning the Southeast Division.
2015/16 (Georgia United Academy): Okonkwo scored 22 goals in 30 appearances for the Georgia United U-18s, which ranked fourth-highest in all of USSDA.
