ATL UTD 2 Announces 2018 Broadcast Team

ATL UTD 2 today announced its broadcast team for its inaugural season. Jon Nelson will serve as the play-by-play host, while Jason Longshore will be the color analyst. All ATL UTD 2 matches will be streamed live on atlutd.com/2, with Nelson and Longshore calling each home match.

“We are pleased to announce the first broadcast team for ATL UTD 2,” said Atlanta United President Darren Eales. “Jon and Jason each have several years of broadcast experience and we look forward to the excitement they will provide our fans as we launch yet another club.”

Nelson has spent the better part of two decades in the Atlanta market as a play-by-play announcer, host and sideline reporter for Georgia Public Broadcasting’s sports coverage. He has also spent time as a reporter, anchor and producer at WAGA-TV and WGCL-TV in the Atlanta TV market. Nelson has spent the past year developing the “Soccer Down Here” radio program and network at OSG Sports alongside Longshore and Jarrett Smith.

Longshore, also the color commentator for Atlanta United’s First Team radio broadcast on Sports Radio 92-9 The Game, has been involved in the Atlanta soccer community for over 20 years and is in his second season in the booth for Atlanta United. He currently serves as the host for 92-9 The Game’s “Stoppage Time” as well as “Soccer Down Here.” Some of his previous work includes working as the Director of Operations for the Atlanta Ruckus, the Chief Development Officer of Soccer in the Streets and in the front office for the Atlanta Silverbacks.

ATL UTD 2’s inaugural match is on March 24 against the New York Red Bulls II at Coolray Field. For the full schedule and ticket information, please visit www.atlutd.com/2.

ATL UTD 2 is owned and operated by AMB Sports & Entertainment and is the United Soccer League (USL) affiliate of Major League Soccer’s Atlanta United. ATL UTD 2 joined USL for its expansion 2018 season and will play its home matches at Gwinnett County’s Coolray Field.

Additional quotes from Nelson and Longshore:

Nelson: “When Matt Moore with Atlanta United reached out to see if I would be interested in being the first play-by-play voice for ATL UTD 2, the first words I said were: ‘I would be honored.’ To be able to tell the stories and see the development of the team at ‘The Proving Ground’ with Jason will be fun to be a part of, without a doubt.”

Longshore: “As soon as Atlanta United 2 became I reality, I knew that I wanted to be involved in the broadcasts. I've been involved in the grassroots development of soccer in Atlanta for so long, and this team is such an important piece of the overall club's development. I'm excited to get to tell the story about the next generation of the Five Stripes.”
