ATL UTD 2 falls 5-1 at Louisville City

Jackson Conway

Atlanta United 2 lost 5-1 to Louisville City Sunday afternoon at Louisville Slugger Field. Jackson Conway scored his fourth goal of the season and has scored in two consecutive matches.

Louisville grabbed the lead in the 16th minute when Sean Totsch made a run down the right flank and sent a cross to the back post. Abdou Thiam headed the ball back across the six-yard box where Brian Ownby headed it into the net for the opening goal.

ATL UTD 2 nearly equalized in the 19th minute. Laurence Wyke made a run through middle of the field before laying off a pass for Jack Metcalf on the right wing. The captain sent a cross to the back post for Bienvenue Kanakimana, but he saw his header drift just over the crossbar.

Louisville later extended its lead in the 41st minute when Pat McMahon redirected a corner kick into the net for a 2-0 lead.

Conway cut the deficit in half in the 72nd minute. Kanakimana played Metcalf down the right side where he sent a low cross into the middle of the six-yard box for an unmarked Conway to tap into the back of the net. The 17-year-old nearly equalized less than a minute later when Kanakimana sprinted down the right side and sent another cross in for Conway, but his attempt rattled off the crossbar and was cleared away.

Niall McCabe then scored a free kick goal in 75th minute while substitute Luke Spencer was able to get on the end of a free kick and tap in a loose ball in the 83rd minute. Magnus Rasmussen finished the scoring in the 85th minute.

ATL UTD 2 (4-13-5, 17 points) returns to action Friday, Aug. 16 against Swope Park Rangers at 7:30 p.m. EST at Fifth Third Bank Stadium. The match will be streamed live on ESPN+.
