Atlanta United 2 today announced it has signed midfielder Amir Bashti (ah-MEER, BOSH-tee), pending league and federation approval.


“Amir is a quality footballer who will add versatility to our squad,” said ATL UTD 2 head coach Stephen Glass. “He brings a winning mentality and high work rate from his decorated college career and we are excited for him to join the group.”


Bashti, 22, was originally drafted No. 48 overall by Atlanta in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft and recently spent time in USL League Two with San Francisco Glens SC. He played four years at Stanford University where he won three consecutive NCAA National Championships in 2015, 2016 and 2017. Bashti totaled 19 goals and 13 assists with Stanford and was named First Team All-Pac 12 in 2018 after scoring seven goals and adding six assists.


He has spent time on the U.S. Youth National Team circuit, playing with the U-19s in Valencia, Spain in the summer of 2016 in the 33rd annual International U-20 Men's COTIF Tournament. Bashti also represented the U-20s at the Dallas Cup in March 2016 and in Serbia in September 2015 for the Stevan Vilotic-Cele Tournament.


ATL UTD 2 continues its season Saturday, Aug. 24 against Hartford Athletic at Dillon Stadium at 7:00 p.m. EST. The match can be seen on ESPN+.
