Atlanta United 2 picked up a 2-1 victory at Subaru Park against Philadelphia Union II on Wednesday night. Amadou Macky Diop scored his sixth goal of the season, while second half substitute David Mejia scored his second game-winning goal of the year. Goalkeeper Vicente Reyes made his professional debut tonight.

Atlanta had the first chance of the match in the 17th minute on a set piece, when captain Modou Jadama connected with a Jack Gurr corner, but his header went just wide of the net. In the 27th minute, Macky Diop had a shot hit the side netting from the left wing. Just before halftime, Atlanta found the breakthrough. Macky Diop got on the end of a Phillip Goodrum pass. The striker dribbled past his defender in the box and ripped a left-footed shot into the top corner to give Atlanta the 1-0 halftime lead.

ATL UTD 2’s goalkeeper Reyes was called into action in the 64th minute, when he made a stop on a Saed Diaz shot. In the 76th minute, Reyes made another diving stop off a Paxten Aaronson shot from distance. Atlanta had opportunities on the other end and capitalized in stoppage time. Amir Bashti sent a cross towards goal, that Philadelphia’s keeper spilled in the six-yard box. David Mejia was johnny on the spot and pounced on the loose ball to score his second goal of the season.

Union II got a goal back late in the stoppage time when Aaronson scored, but ATL UTD 2 was able to see out the match and take home three points.

ATL UTD 2 (2-7-3, 9 points) will be back in action on Sept. 12 when they host The Miami FC at Fifth Third Bank Stadium in Group H action (7:30 p.m., ESPN+).
