Among the many moves of Atlanta United’s Secondary Transfer Window, the 5-Stripes brought in their first player on loan in the 2025 season. Juan Berrocal joined the club from Getafe CF in the Spanish first division. Atlanta United has an option to make the transfer permanent.

For someone who has played his entire career in Spain, the move to the United States is a complete 180. The newlywed is going through plenty of change both on and off the pitch, but he’s settled into the routine of training and travel. He may get the chance to feature in his first home match in front of the 17s when Atlanta United plays Toronto FC Sunday, Aug. 24.

As he took in the sights and scenes of Mercedes-Benz Stadium, we asked Berrocal 17 questions to get to know the Spanish defender better:

This interview was conducted in Spanish and translated into English for this article. For the Spanish version, click here.

My first memory with football was when I was four or five years old in my city Jerez with my dad.

What are your first impressions of the team and your teammates?

I like to play well with the ball and be solid in the defense.

What’s one thing you can’t live without?

My wife.

It was fast, with just a little food and our families, but it was very pretty.

Do you have any prematch rituals?

Yes, I always step onto the pitch with my left foot first. I listen to flamenco, too.

So, you’re a big flamenco fan?

Yes, I love it. En Andaluz, flamenco is very important.

What’s your favorite Spanish beach?

I’d say Port Santa María in Cádiz.

What’s a piece of advice you wish you would’ve received when you were younger?

Be humble, but don’t think of yourself as less than anyone.

My idol in life is my dad.

Do you have a favorite dish to cook?

To cook, not so much, but my favorite food is sushi.

What do you want 17s to know about you?

I come here to defend the badge the best I can.
