Atlanta United ranks no. 2 in highest average attendance for North and South American stadiums

ATTENDANCES

The 17s know nothing beats match day at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. And the numbers reflect that.

On Friday, the official Twitter account of FOX Soccer posted a list of North and South American soccer stadiums with the highest average attendance for the 2022 season, and Atlanta United ranked no. 2 overall. With an average attendance of 47,116, Atlanta United topped the list for clubs in North America. Only Flamengo in Brazil had a higher average than Atlanta.

Four Brazilian clubs made the list along with two clubs from Liga MX in Mexico (Tigres and Club América). One other MLS club cracked the top eight, Atlanta United's neighbor and Eastern Conference rival Charlotte FC.

Atlanta's success demonstrates the growth of MLS. In 2022, the league's average attendance reached 10 million, exceeding the previous record set in 2019 at 8.6 million. Atlanta United's most attended match in 2022 was August 6 against Seattle Sounders. At Mercedes-Benz Stadium, 68,586 supporters watched Atlanta United win 2-1 in one of the most attended MLS matches of the year.

Atlanta United will be looking to fill the stadium again in the 2023 season, which kicks off at home on February 25 against the San Jose Earthquakes.
