Giorgos Giakoumakis visa approved, available to make debut against Toronto FC

Giorgos-Giakoumakis-Visa-Approved-Fist-Training

Get ready, 17s. The Giorgos Giakoumakis era at Atlanta United is about to begin.

The striker’s P-1 visa was approved, allowing the Greek international to be available for selection in the club’s upcoming match on Saturday, March 4 against Toronto FC at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Giakoumakis returned to Atlanta on Thursday and will join training on Friday.

Atlanta United signed Giakoumakis this offseason. The striker joins Atlanta after playing the last two seasons in the Scottish Premiership with Celtic F.C. He was the league’s leading goal scorer last season (13) and helped Celtic win both the league title and Scottish League Cup.

Giakoumakis will play up top for Atlanta United. What can 17s expect from their new striker? The 28-year-old describes himself as a proper nine who looks to get into the box and do what strikers do – finish.

“I can score and that’s something that I’ve worked a lot on the last two to three years,” he said. “My best abilities are my strength, my movement, my ability to score. And I think that I'm also mentally strong.”

Atlanta United will be looking for back-to-back wins on Saturday. The team won the regular season opener 2-1 over the San Jose Earthquakes on February 25.
