Atlanta United defender Greg Garza has been called up to the U.S. Men’s National Team for January Camp, the club announced today. Garza and the rest of the USMNT will report to Los Angeles on Jan. 10 in preparation for international friendlies against Serbia (Jan. 29) and Jamaica (Feb. 3). He’ll return to first team duties with Atlanta on Feb. 6.

Garza, 25, has been capped by the USMNT nine times, most recently during the 2015 Gold Cup during a 1-0 win in group stage against Haiti. He made his National Team debut when he entered as a substitute in a friendly against the Czech Republic on Sept. 3, 2014. He quickly became a roster fixture over the next 12 months, featuring on an additional 12 match-day rosters, while making six starts and two substitute appearances. He was last called-up to the USMNT for a friendly against Brazil on Sept. 9, 2015, but did not feature during the match.

Garza joined Atlanta United on loan from Club Tijuana on Dec. 23, 2016. Born in Grapevine, Texas, he has spent the majority of his soccer career abroad, with youth stints in academies at Sao Paulo and Sporting Lisbon, and professional stops at Tijuana and Atlas. At Tijuana, Garza combined to make 84 career appearances for the Xolos, including six appearances in CONCACAF Champions League and four appearances in Copa Libertadores.
