Atlanta United signed Yamil Asad on January 11th, 2017 on a season long loan from Argentina Primera Division side Vélez Sarsfield.

Asad, has been with Vélez for his entire professional and youth career. The son of former Argentine international Omar Asad, Yamil has made 55 career appearances and scored four goals for Vélez. The right-footed attacking midfielder has been a key fixture for Vélez since making his debut in 2012. His most successful season came during the 2015 campaign, where he made 24 appearances, started 17 games, scored four goals and added two assists.

Since his breakthrough campaign in 2015, Asad’s playing time has varied due to injury. During the shortened 2016 Argentine Primera Division season, Asad made nine appearances, started eight games and had four assists. So far during the 2016-17 season, Asad has made two appearances with one start.

Acquired: Joined Atlanta United on a season-long loan as a Discovery Signing from Vélez Sarsfield on Jan. 11, 2017.

Asad joins Atlanta United after spending his entire professional and youth career with Vélez Sarsfield. 2016/2017 (Vélez Sarsfield): Asad featured in two matches, one start, against River Plate (Oct. 2) and Rafaela (Dec. 10).

2016 (Vélez Sarsfield): Asad appeared in nine Primera División matches, eight starts, and recorded three assists. He assisted in back-to-back games against Quilmes (March 27) and Godoy Cruz (April 4).

2015 (Vélez Sarsfield): Asad appeared in 24 Primera División matches, where he netted a career-best four goals and two assists. In the first game of Primera División play, Asad recorded his first professional assist in a 2-0 win over Aldosivi (Feb. 13). In Vélez’s next match, Asad scored his first professional goal against Crucero (Feb. 22). After entering the game in the 77th minute, he netted the game-tying goal in the 80th minute, helping lift Vélez to a 2-1 win after Nicolas Martinez scored the game-winning free kick in the 85th minute. Asad scored against Banfield (May 23), a game-tying goal en route to a 3-1 win. The next match he assisted the second goal in a 2-0 win over Boca Juniors (June 1). This marked the second time he registered a point in back-to-back games. Asad also scored a go-ahead goal against Rafaela (Aug. 16) in a 2-2 draw and an extra time game-winner in a 1-0 victory over Lanus (Oct. 18).

2014 (Vélez Sarsfield): During the shortened 2014 Torneo de Transicion season, Asad featured in 13 matches and made five starts, as Velez finished in 11th place. 

2013/2014 (Vélez Sarsfield): Asad made five appearances in the Torneo Final and made his first professional start and played the full 90 minutes against Rosario Central on April 27, 2014.

2012/2013 (Vélez Sarsfield): Asad made one appearance in the Torneo Final, his professional debut, against Colon on April 14, 2013, entering as a substitute and logging 15 minutes in a 2-1 loss.
