Julian Gressel named to MLS Team of the Week

There were plenty of stars shining in Atlanta United's dominant win in their home opener against D.C. United this weekend. Miguel Almirón and Tito Villalba each secured a goal and an assist each, Darlington Nagbe and Jeff Larentowicz were rocks in the center of the park, and the defense only allowed one shot on target for the whole match. But one player's performance stood out above the rest to league writers, with Julian Gressel being named to the MLS Team of the Week.

The German excelled in his second ever start at right wingback in Tata Martino's three-man back line formation. The reigning Rookie of the Year dominated the right flank with constant energy and exceptional passing, including this perfectly-timed one-touch pass to set up Almirón for the second goal of the match.

Almirón was also named to the bench in MLS's Team of the Week voting for his all-action display in the middle of the park, and his goal was nominated for the MLS Goal of the Week award as well. Make sure to cast your vote here to make sure he gets the recognition he deserves. Here's the full MLS Team of the Week:
