ATL UTD International Break Roundup

All four Atlanta United players called up for international duty come back to training after globetrotting around the world representing their countries over the weekend.

Starting in the back, Brad Guzan played all 90 minutes for the U.S. Men’s National Team in their friendly against England at Wembley Stadium. While the match ended in a loss, Guzan stood firm in the back line, with two impressive saves –– including one to deny Wayne Rooney in his testimonial match. Guzan was an unused substitute in the team’s following match against Italy in Belgium, with young American Ethan Horvath getting his chance in goal for that one.

Josef Martinez went all over the globe for two friendlies with his Venezuela teammates. He travelled to Japan, coming on as a second-half substitute against them. Then it was off to the Middle East, where he started in the front line against Iran in a friendly in Doha, Qatar. Josef did find the back of the net with a nice dribble and finish, but an offside ruled it out, with the game ending in a 1-1 score.

Finally, Miguel Almirón and Tito Villalba’s Paraguay played in Durban, South Africa against Bafana Bafana, the South African National Team. Miggy went all 90 minutes, while Tito Villalba –– and Red Bulls midfielder Kaku –– came on after the break to finish off the 1-1 draw.

All four are now back in Atlanta and will recover and prepare for Sunday’s Eastern Conference Final match against the New York Red Bulls. Tickets are still available for that one, so make sure you’re there by reserving your ticket here.
